Ajay Rajgarhia lives in New Delhi and has exhibited his photography all over the world – from Bangkok and Singapore, to LA. He has always looked at life with a different angle. He listens to music, preferring lyrics to rhythm. And watches movies with a keen curiosity for the story not told….constantly searching for answers in endless books, lectures and spiritual study. ‘There has to be more to this,’ is his common refrain.
Back in 2007, this attitude and growing interest in his work gave him the confidence to quit everything else, and focus purely on fine art photography.
His influences from a past life in textiles are perceptible in earlier works – arresting close-ups of vibrant colour, textures and fabrics. Moving forward, still lives and urban spaces (at times in combination) have been an important focus for Rajgarhia. One of his enduring set of works is set in Kolkata, the product of a detailed five-year-long project exploring the lesser seen aspects of the city, and waiting for the post-rain shots he prefers.
His skillful eye and passion for the photographic medium have also steered him successfully into the world of curation.
Rajgarhia’s works feature in the collections of prominent international collectors.
